“We have a dog, she’s very sweet,
Has a curious nose and very cold feet,
Her name is Sally, she knows it well,
And if you’re talking about her – she can tell!
A cuddlemonster : she loves a big warm hug
And when she wants one, boy can she bug!
She knows when she’s naughty, and cannot be found
She’s very invisible when trouble’s around
She loves to go ‘walkies’, that’s her favourite word
She wants to chase squirrels, and stare at the birds
She’s so full of energy, bouncy and fun
If she’d not come along what would we have done?
A rescue dog, Sally was found on the street,
At just 6 months old, so tiny and sweet
We found her so sad, in a cage all alone
No cuddles, no walkies, no-where to call home
The moment we saw her, we knew it was right,
We asked to adopt her that very night,
Four years ago, she arrived at the door
Of a new home, hers for evermore”

My mum’s complaining that she misses my pictures. So just for her, here’s some I recently took during the mini snow & ice age.

Ouchy! Root Canal :(
Well since the 4th December, I’ve had toothache. Not a little bumping sort of niggling toothache, but ‘Oh my God, I’ve been smacked in the face in the middle of the night and I’ll never sleep through again’ type toothache. Feels like a tiny goblin with a drum is beating the inside of your face and will never ever stop.
So what happened? I dunno. I know that on 16th September, 2 days before I went to Cyprus, I was eating one of those ‘Eat Natural’ bars with yoghurt & nuts and all that good stuff, when I felt a crunch and thought that I had a big piece of nut stuck in my tooth. (cringing yet?).
After pulling on it, I realised that it wasn’t a nut, it was my tooth and the nut had actually gone into the hole where my filling had been a few seconds earlier. So, I tried not to panic and sitting at my desk, very attractively tried to prise out the nut. The nut came, but unfortunately, part of my tooth snapped off with it.
So I got an emergency appointment with my local private dentist – the NHS couldn’t see me for 2-3 weeks, which was no good to me. So I dutifully paid my £50 and had it checked out. The dentist (who incidentally used to be my NHS dentist before the practice went private) looked at it, said it was a very deep cavity & might need root canal. However, she said, a temporary filling along with some corsodyl wash and a clean up, should see me right for a while – at least through my holiday and probably a fair while more.
So off I went on holiday, little temporary filling kit in my luggage (just in case!). All was well. Upon coming home, I decided to be sensible, and with Christmas looming I reckoned the last thing I wanted was to have the thing fall out over Christmas (It’s always over Christmas these things happen to other people, so I was trying to be brave!). So I booked in to see my NHS dentist and went along for the appointment.
I should have known things were going to go badly when the dentist – a huge man who didn’t speak much English – or much at all if I’m being fair – was really rough with me and cut my mouth a little bit during the x-ray. He said he did a check up but he did little more than poke around my mouth for 10 seconds and declare all was fine. Because I couldn’t understand him I didn’t realise he was claiming to have done a ‘check up’ until I went to pay. He also didn’t tell me he couldn’t do the filling that day and that I’d have to make another appointment to have that done – I had to wait for the receptionist to come and ask me why I was still sitting in the chair :/ Oh, to top it off, he absolutely stank to high heaven of BO. It was November, so it wasn’t exactly warm in there.
So I made my appointment but asked for the other dentist there. My appointment was booked for 17th November. She did the filling, all seemed to go well, I handed over my £82.50 (on top of the £16.50 for the ‘check-up’).
Then, on the 4th December, the pain started. Really awful pulsing, punching pain. Lasted the whole weekend. Got an emergency appointment with the NHS dentist (14 days later) and went on the 18th to have it looked at. She couldn’t see anything wrong and told me she couldn’t really do anything as she didn’t know what it was. She gave me a prescription for antibiotics to take away with me ‘in case it gets worse over Christmas as we’re shut until 5th January’ and then told me to come back in the New Year if it was still painful. I wasn’t impressed, but was a bit stuck – there was nothing I could ask her to do and I wasn’t confident it would be done properly if she did it anyway.
It was so painful over my birthday, Christmas and New Year (not forgetting my OH’s birthday on 30 Dec), that I was constantly taking painkillers the whole time. On the 6th January, we got snowed in, so I walked to the private clinic up the road and asked if they could see me as people would obviously not be able to make it to where we were if we couldn’t get out! They saw me straight away but again at a cost of £50 for an emergency. I was seen and the dentist said the filling was too proud which was causing me pressure on the back of my jaw. He filed it down in about 2 minutes, and I was off. He did tell me though that if it carried on, then I would need root canal treatment.
Then, later that day, the pain came back.
So I went to see him and was booked in for Root Canal Treatment today, 19 January. He did the procedure and discovered that the filling had a big gap at the top of it which was letting the nerve come into contact with food, drink, temperatures – explaining the initial pain. It was probably also infected at some point through that gap. So I’m not happy and will be writing to the NHS practice asking for my money for the filling back.
Now I look like a chipmunk and feel like I’ve done 8 rounds with Tyson, but at least it’s over for now and hopefully we’ve found the bottom of the issue. Although he did say he thinks the x-ray shows I need to have my impacted wisdom tooth out as it’s pushing my other teeth up at the back. Eeeeeeeeek!!

Is this the end for GHDs? New Wet2Straight straighteners are fab!! (girly post alert!)
As most of you already know I am a bzzagent – which means that I am often invited to participate in trialling out a new product and to spread my opinion on it by word of mouth. There’s nothing covert or sneaky about it, it’s well known that having your products recommended is a great way to get good business, and you are encouraged to be completely honest in your reviews and also it’s a requirement that you tell people you are reviewing the item as part of a bzz campaign. So that’s that out of the way.
These are the new Wet2Straight slim straighteners that I’ve been reviewing
I was a little dubious at the start of the campaign because I couldn’t see how anything that dries your hair by applying heat directly to it could be good for your hair, and the last thing I want to do is end up looking like Jamie Afro. However I decided to give it a go. I have naturally curly hair, and I have used GHD straighteners for a few years and although I don’t use them more than once a week usually because they damage my hair – I do love poker straight locks! Sometimes, the GHDs make my hair look a little greasy though – it goes a bit flat once it’s been straightened.
So when I got the Wet2Straight straighteners I was quite excited. They can be used on both dry and wet hair, but I wanted to try them out on wet hair first. The first tIme I used them it took quite a while – about 30 minutes to get it completely right, however when compared to 15 minutes drying followed by 10 minutes with the GHDs, it’s not that different. However what was apparent was the incredible difference in my hair. I wasn’t expecting too much, after all, GHDs are widely agreed to be the best, but these straighteners were so much better for my hair. I had no product on at all, just followed the instructions and my hair honestly looked like I’d just stepped out of the salon. I know it’s a cliche, but it did. I couldn’t believe it.
It was light, poker-straight and dry as a bone. And the best bit was, instead of the wavy head I usually woke up with the day after a night out with straightened hair, I woke up with it almost completely straight again! A quick 2 mins with the straighteners on the dry setting, and I was good to go. So many people commented on my hair that day, I was totally impressed.
Another unexpected bonus was that I found that instead of washing my hair every day to sort out greasy roots/dry ends, I was able to wash it once every 2/3 days and inbetween washes it still looked good – somehow it was more manageable and just..better.
So now I’ve got it down to around 10 minutes from start to finish, so my hair is taking far less direct heat than hairdrying followed by GHDs. Also, because I’m washing it maybe 3 times a week compared to 7, it’s not suffering at all from the new straighteners.
I can’t say how well these would work for everyone, but considering they are a fraction of the price of GHDs, I would seriously recommend them to anyone looking for new straighteners – even if they are a GHD fanatic!

Now for the last pic! 311209. Soon as I heard that there would be a full ‘blue moon’ on New Years Eve, with a partial lunar eclipse, I knew that would be my last photo of the year.
Never taken a moon shot before & it took some time to set up but I’m really pleased with the results on my 70-200.
2009 has been an awful year for a lot of people I know, worse for some than others. We had some really horrible times, with Mr Elvis hurting his hand so badly in the summer, but now – it’s over. New Moon, New Year, New Start.
Thank you to everyone here who supported me through my 365 and gave me the confidence to keep going – I didn’t think I’d get through a whole year when I started. I will be doing something more this year, probably more along the lines of a themed 52 – a different theme a week, but I need to concentrate more on technique and learning now. I hope you’ve enjoyed the photographs over the last 12 months. I really appreciate all the support and comments that you’ve made. The 365 has done its job! Thanks again, and I hope you like the last pic:
